Ross Anderson, Andrew Anderson & Sons
Ross has served as the SAIF Scotland Representative on the SAIFCharter Executive Committee since 2024 and has decided to stand for formal election this year.
Ross began his career in funeral directing in 2008 at his grandfather's business, Andrew Anderson & Sons Funeral Directors, Alongside his day-to-day work, he invested heavily in his professional development, achieving the Diploma in Funeral Directing through the National Association of Funeral Directors and completing his embalming qualifications. These achievements, combined with extensive practical experience, have given Ross a well-rounded understanding of all aspects of the profession and a deep appreciation for the values, traditions, and personal commitment that underpin independent funeral service.
In 2014, Ross took over the family business and has proudly continued its legacy. Under his leadership, the company has grown to five branches and expanded its team to meet increasing demand, while maintaining the highest standards of care, compassion, and professionalism for the families it serves.
Ross remains a passionate advocate for independent funeral directing, combining tradition, professionalism, and innovation to ensure families receive the very best care when they need it most. He is committed to supporting fellow independent funeral directors and helping the profession adapt to the challenges and opportunities of an evolving marketplace.
As well as being a valued member of the SAIFCharter Executive Committee, Ross was installed as President of SAIF Scotland & Northern Ireland —an achievement that reflects both his dedication and the respect he has earned across the industry.
Through his continued involvement with SAIFCharter, Ross is committed to representing members' interests, promoting the highest professional standards, and helping to secure a strong future for independent funeral directors throughout Scotland, Northern Ireland, and beyond.
Ross Hickton, Hickton Family Funeral Directors
Ross is a fourth-generation funeral director and Managing Director of his family business, Hickton Family Funeral Directors, which was established in 1909.
Ross joined the business in 2006 and worked closely with his late father in the day-to-day running of the company and conducting of the funerals. Committed to professional development, Ross achieved his Diploma in Funeral Directing in 2015, further strengthening his knowledge and expertise within the profession. During his time with the business, Ross has also overseen significant growth, expanding Hickton Family Funerals from two funeral homes to the seven locations it operates today.
In addition to his role at Hickton Family Funerals, Ross is also the Managing Partner of Jones Memorials, following the Hickton family’s acquisition of it in 2021, giving him a broader understanding of the funeral and memorial sectors and the challenges facing independent family-run businesses.
Ross served as SAIF President during the 2025-26 term, with a particular focus on addressing the growing competition from direct cremation providers, supporting industry regulation, and helping to future-proof independent funeral businesses. Throughout his presidency, he championed the interests of family-owned funeral directors and worked to ensure their voices were represented at the highest level.
Ross has decided to stand for election to the SAIFCharter Executive Committee this year so that he can continue contributing to the future of the profession, representing the interests of independent funeral directors, and promoting the highest standards of care and professionalism. He is passionate about safeguarding the values that define independent funeral service while helping members navigate the opportunities and challenges of an evolving marketplace. Ross also wants to see SAIFCharter having a stronger voice, representing its members within Golden Charter.
